“ The dining room here must be one of the most spectacular I have ever seen. The Victorian decor and beautiful ceiling, walls and decoration are just beautiful. Fortunately the quality of the setting is reflected in the food. Delicious throughout and with some well thought out combinations for parties, this is a great menu and tastes excellent. Friendly staff and a relaxed approach make it one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. I have had better Chinese food - which explains the lack of a ***** review - but this is pretty excellent and we've been a few times. ”
“ Our first night in Harrogate the lovely hostess at our B&B suggested this restaurant. After a long day at a conference I was yearning for something other than steak or chicken, I wanted oriental food! We walked up to the place, without reservations, and were seated in a lovely spot. The restaurant is instead one of the old Baths which litter the Harrogate landscape - as Harrogate is a spa town, doing brisk business during the Victorian & Edwardian era. The interior decor was an amalgam of chinese/oriental and pre-edwardian. I was so delighted to see dim sum items on the menu. I have so longed for some steamed sticky pork buns and these were among the best I've ever had. The waiters bring out a little hotplate to the table and place your food there, so you can serve yourself. The food is kept at an optimal temperature while you share your food with your dining companion. I felt like I was back at Jade Dynasty in Toronto - one of the many places where you don't see a white-face amongst all the chinese patrons. The food was so delicious, the seasoning perfect, and there was just enough to get me full without feeling like I was overly stuffed. This is not a cheap place to eat, nor is it overly expensive either. If you're looking for a good place to eat for either a special occassion or romantic date, this place is perfect. It has booths, tables and a huge central round table - a la King Arthur's Round Table. ”
“ Great building and fantastic food. A superb welcome as soon as you walk through the door. Might not be the cheapest chinese retaurant around but for the quality of th ood and the surroundings it is worth very penny! ”
“ Ate here for my birthday recently and chose the set Sunday menu. It was a bit limited which meant that two of the party wanted to eat off the ordinary menu, which was no problem, but it did make the meal a bit more expensive. I had chicken satay to start with which was delicious, so often it appears to be preformed meat stamped into a shape but this seemed to be handmade. One of the other guests who ate off the ordinary menu had the same thing but had four satay sticks instead of three. Not sure it was worth the extra for that really. The main menu dishes did appear to be a little bigger when they arrived, compared to the set menu ones, but all round it was a nice meal and we definitely plan to return soon. It's a very interesting building and well worth having a meal just to enjoy the wonderful surroundings. Seems to be getting deservedly popular on Sundays, quite a lot of people eating on Feb 20. Cost about £60 with drinks and the extras from the main menu. ”
“ This is simply an outstanding Chinese restaurant. It's based in Harrogate's historic and beautiful Royal Baths building which has been carefully and tastefully restored inside. The dining area is truly stunning, surrounded by huge Victorian pillars, with a high ceiling, an amazing domed roof and stained glass windows. Thankfully the food lives up to the dramatic setting. I've eaten there twice now with friends and we all had superb meals - Chinese food as it should be. It was all perfectly cooked with fresh ingredients, and a million miles away from the MSG filled slop which often passes for Chinese these days. Staff are attentive but not over-bearing. It's definitely a place for a special meal out, not for a quick bite after the pub. It's fairly smart, but not stuffy. Price-wise, it's not cheap, but for the quality of food and atmosphere, I didn't feel ripped off at all. I'd actually go so far as to say it's the best Chinese I've ever been to. Definitely worth a visit, and I'll certainly be going again. ”
